Nearly 40 Teesside businesses have joined forces to give 10 local charities, community groups and schools a chance to share a cash jackpot in the fourth £10,000 Goalden Giveaway.
The £10,000 fund is being made available by charitable movement Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation.
The Foundation is funded by Teesside businesses and individual patrons including Middlesbrough FC who are backing the Goalden Giveaway.
Other prominent businesses who fund the Foundation as patrons include Cleveland Cable Co, Bulkhaul, AV Dawson, Nortech, Charles Clinkard, Visualsoft, Barclays and Devereux Transport.
The money will be split between 10 charities, community groups and schools – with dozens of local good causes expected to apply to make the shortlist.
The initiative follows similar Goalden Giveaway that attracted applications from not-for-profit organisations across Teesside.
Foundation chairman Andy Preston will lead a selection panel that faces the tough task of choosing the 10-strong shortlist.
Also on the panel will be representatives of Middlesbrough FC and some of the Foundation’s other patrons that include many of Teesside’s leading companies.
Supporters of the good causes will then have an opportunity to vote via the Foundation’s official website at www.teessidecharity.org.uk for the good cause they believe most deserves the money.
The charity receiving most votes will receive £2,500 together with a visit from two Boro first team stars.
The second-placed charity will receive £1,500 and those placed third to fifth £1,000. There’ll be £750 for the charities getting the sixth and seventh most votes and £500 for the remaining good causes.
Foundation chairman Andy said: “With Boro’s support, our previous Goalden Giveaways have proved to be hugely popular – so we’re now making it a fixture in our calendar.
“It’s an exciting way to donate money to some of Teesside’s amazing community groups that need our help and get the public involved in our Foundation. It also raises the profile of our charity and the various community groups that take part.”
Previous winners of the Goalden Giveaway’s £2,500 top prize include Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club, Teesside Wheelchair Basketball Club and Trinity Holistic Centre at James Cook University Hospital.
Other Teesside Philanthropic Foundation patrons include Endeavour Partnership, Evolution, Hunters Estate Agents, Mandale Group, Henderson Insurance Brokers, Unasys, Stockton Machine Company, RMBAuto, Cool Blue, px Group, Castlegate Shopping Centre, Erimus Insurance Brokers, Active Chartered Financial Planners, CPD Bodies, BHP Law, First Choice Labels and Ecco Finishing Supplies.
Personal patrons are the McCullagh, Sizer and Wadsworth families, Bill Scott, Barney Ord, Simon Scotchbrook, Nigel Williams, Ian Tracey, Steve Nichols, Rob McLaughlin, Ali Miremadi and founder-chairman Andy Preston.
