Boro designers toast success

A local web design and development business is set to represent the area on a truly global scale.

Middlesbrough-based Big Bite Creative, formed just four years ago by four Teesside University graduates, has become one of only a handful global companies chosen for the VIP partner programme.

Big Bite Creative is only the second firm in the UK to ever be awarded VIP service partner status and the first from the North East.

The accolade recognises companies who are doing the best web design and development work with WordPress, a platform on which almost a quarter of all websites are built, and offers the local company an opportunity to work with some of the biggest global brands such as Facebook, Spotify, Microsoft Studios and more.

Despite its international success, the company has no intention of leaving the place it is proud to call home.

Big Bite Creative was born when four recent Teesside University graduates met while trying to start their careers in the immediate aftermath of the credit crunch.

“Starting out didn’t seem that scary, four friends in a room doing what we love compare that with having to move your whole life to Manchester or London,” says Jason Agnew.

“Between the university and DigitalCity we had a lot of support, even from providing us with our first office space”.

It wasn’t long before the company won over important local clients like Teesside University’s Student Union and Middlesbrough Football Club, but the ambition was always to represent the area internationally.

“We quickly learned that we could successfully trade internationally from our studio here in Middlesbrough and travel to meet our clients,” added Natalie Larkin.

“We now export over 60% of our work to the US and joining VIP will definitely help to increase this”.

Despite its global clients the company’s award-winning team remains rooted on Teesside.

“It’s a really exciting time for us as a company,” said business development manager says Iain McPherson.

“But also for the area as a whole; the digital community here is booming.

“Middlehaven has changed a lot in the last 10 years and we’re excited to be in the heart of its regeneration, with some exciting new development opportunities becoming available”.

Big Bite Creative is currently a team of eight, based in the Boho One, Middlesbrough.
