Apprentices celebrated at Town Hall

A group of Middlesbrough apprentices have had their achievements celebrated at a Town Hall ceremony.

Around 40 young people aged 16-20 receive certificates for their Business Administration Apprenticeships from Mayor Dave Budd with employers, their families and the next wave of apprentices looking on.

The successful young people have completed either their Level 2 or Level 3 programme, which last 12 and 18 months, through Middlesbrough Community Learning’s Training Centre.

They have done this while working for Middlesbrough Council, Cleveland Police, Kier Group, in Middlesbrough primary schools and for Hertel UK Ltd.

Among the success stories were Michael and Jade Hooker, a brother and sister aged 20 and 21, from Billingham. Both work at Middlesbrough Council, Michael in Democratic Services and Jade in Loans and Investments.

Mr Budd said: “I am delighted to be celebrating the achievements of our young people. Apprenticeships play a big part in helping young people into long-term employment by equipping them with the skills that employers are looking for.

“Their work is very much appreciated and I would like to pay tribute to their success and wish them all the very best with their future careers.”

The Mayor was joined by Cllr Jan Brunton, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Education and Skills, in making presentations.

Chris Kemp, manager of Middlesbrough Community Learning, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for a partnership of learning that includes the apprentice, the employer, the family and the training team.

“These young people have done exceptionally well and prove that investing in the young people of today helps sustain a vibrant workforce for tomorrow.”

• Any young people aged 16-24 interested in an apprenticeship, or businesses wishing to take an apprentice on, should contact Ann White at Middlesbrough Council on 01642 729678.
