Footwear retailer Charles Clinkard has announced plans to open a new flagship store at Teesside Shopping Park in Stockton.
The shop, which will be in HMV’s former unit on the site, will create 20 jobs and undergo a £300,000 refit ahead of the opening in July.
It is the company’s first ever store at a retail park and will become Clinkard’s seventh store in the region.
The move is yet another investment by the company, which recently opened a new £3m head office and warehouse at Cannon Park in Middlesbrough, and renewed its lease on its Redcar store.
Managing director Charles Clinkard said: “We’re very excited to be opening our new store at Teesside Shopping Park.
“It’s one of the busiest retail parks in the country and we believe it will be the start of an exciting new growth avenue for the business.”
Clinkard has a 92-year history – it was started in Middlesbrough by Charles’ grandparents in 1924.
The company now employs more than 550 people around the country in 33 stores, including Newcastle, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Northallerton and Dalton Park.
Charles said the new store represented the company’s continuing commitment to the region and its customers.
The 4,500 sq ft unit will be made up of a 2,000 sq ft trading floor selling ladies’, men’s and children’s footwear and handbags and a newly installed mezzanine floor.
The showcase store will receive a high quality fit-out to give a premium feel, enhancing customers’ shopping experience.
“We’ll have a full product range on offer at Teesside Shopping Park, so customers will have an excellent choice of high-quality brands at great prices – and we think they will like the new-look shop,” said Charles.
Brands on offer will include Gabor, Rieker, Skechers, UGG, Fly London, Barker and Loake. Children’s brands will include Start-rite, Lelli Kelly, Geox, Converse and Timberland.
