Work begins on new health centre in Acklam

Residents in Middlesbrough are a step closer to the opening of a new state-of-the-art health centre as work starts on the new facility.

The new £4.2m Health Centre on Trimdon Avenue, Acklam, is being developed by OneMedicalGroup – a leading healthcare property developer – to bring improved health and wellbeing services to the area.

The new centre, set to open in mid-May 2017, will house the existing Woodlands Road Surgery, currently located in the centre of the town, and the existing branch surgery on Acklam Road. Both surgeries will continue to serve patients as usual until the opening.

The new building, which will be renamed ‘Bluebell Medical Centre’, will be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for patients. It will provide up-to-date facilities including GP and nurse consulting rooms and an on-site pharmacy.

Tim Wilkinson, head of property for OneMedicalGroup, said: “We are excited to get the construction of this health centre underway with the aim of bringing patients high quality environments that are conducive to positive health and wellbeing.”

Dr Gary Scott and management partner Catherine Hurst are leading on the development on behalf of the Practice.

The new surgery has been developed in partnership with Dr Murphy & Partners and QAD architects. Its design is eco-friendly, incorporating a number of green technologies which will reduce running costs and achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
