A Marske-based roofing and building specialist business has embarked on a new venture thanks to support from the Tees Valley Business Compass.
The Capital Grant Scheme, operated by Tees Valley Business Compass, granted AAA Roofing £49,000 funding to support the company in establishing a new roofing supplier’s yard on Marske Industrial Estate.
The new enterprise supplies reclaimed roofing materials to builders and roofers, filling a gap in the local market as the nearest facility is currently in Durham.
The family business was founded in 1976 and six years ago managing director Ben Blackburn took over its running after his father sadly passed away.
Since then it has grown from Ben and a colleague to having 13 vans and 20 staff, including offering apprentice opportunities to local young people.
Blackburn said: “The Capital Grant Scheme has enabled us to invest in this new project which complements the existing business.
“We have grown significantly over the last few years and have ambitious plans to continue to expand and create further opportunities.
“The Small Grant Scheme is a valuable resource; I would highly recommend that other businesses explore the options open to them.”
Councillor Sue Jeffrey, leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council and member of the Tees Valley Combined Authority, said: “AAA Roofing is one of a number of companies benefiting from the Capital Grant Scheme, helping to grow business and employment opportunities in the region.
“Tees Valley is an enterprising region and AAA Roofing provide just one example of this spirit. Tees Valley Business Compass’s support for this company shows our commitment to backing the innovation and initiative of our business community.”
