Dave Allan and Martin Walker, who both run their own successful PR businesses, have created Middlesbrough-based Resolution Media and Publishing.
The pair decided to join forces after the success of their Tees Business magazine, which was launched in February 2015 and will come under the new Resolution banner.
Allan and Walker now have plans to launch other titles for the Teesside area and beyond under their new publishing house, which is based at Boho Four in Middlesbrough.
Tees Business is already a well-established publication for the region’s business community. The magazine is free, and funded purely through advertising.
Allan (above right) has more than 30 years of PR and media experience. After 10 years working in the internal communications structure of petrochemicals giant ICI, he spent 17 years within the fast-moving industry of Premier League football, leading Middlesbrough FC’s PR strategy throughout a period that took in five major cup finals, two UEFA Cup runs and a multitude of superstar signings.
Since launching his own company, DNA PR and Publicity, in 2011, he has carried out PR and media work for a range of prestigious clients, as well as publishing a number of books for Middlesbrough FC.
Walker, who trained as a journalist with the Teesside Gazette, worked in Allan’s media team from 2000 to 2005, writing for club publications such as the matchday programme as well as magazines and books.
He then spent four years in Sunderland AFC’s media team before setting up his own company, Mantis Media, and launched the successful Aycliffe Today Business magazine in November 2012.
Resolution has already taken on its first member of staff in business development executive Jenny Williams, pictured (above, centre).
And they plan to create more new jobs over the next two years, with other publications in the pipeline, starting with Teesside lifestyle magazine, Tees Life, set for launch in April.
Allan, who lives in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, said: “Martin and I have known each other professionally and personally for almost 17 years and we have always worked well together.
“We both went in our own directions with our businesses before coming together to launch Tees Business two years ago, and we’ve already tapped into a niche B2B market.
“We have now identified a number of other gaps in the publishing market, both locally and in other areas of the North-East, so the natural progression for us was to create a publishing house, and we feel this is a really exciting time for Resolution Media and Publishing.”
Allan and Walker decided to name their new publishing company after HMS Resolution, which was used by Teesside-born Captain James Cook for his second and third voyages of exploration in the Pacific in the 1770s.
Walker, who lives in Eaglescliffe, Stockton, added: “We’re both very proud of Teesside and I think that comes through in our Tees Business magazines.
“We wanted a name that would resonate with the people of Teesside, but also a name that would be bold and strong. Synonyms for resolution are determination, purpose, resolve and strength of character, all of which represent our region, its people and the way we feel about our new business.
“We’re both passionate about content and creating readable publications that people enjoy.
“We’re very excited about the future of Resolution and we look forward to launching our new titles in the coming months.”
As well as producing their own publications, Resolution Media and Publishing can also publish marketing material for other businesses, including brochures, magazines and online content.
