SABIC has appointed Daren Smith as acting site director for Teesside.
Smith has worked on the Wilton International site in various roles since 2001, including project management, maintenance management, director of environment, health and safety, and for the last three years as technical director.
Teesside-born Smith takes the reins from site director John Bruijnooge, who is undertaking a SABIC secondment for a project in Saudi Arabia for a period of up to six months, with plans to return to Teesside when the project has finished.
SABIC had recently undertaken a major investment to upgrade its Olefins Cracker to take US ethane as one its raw materials to make it one of the most flexible crackers in Europe.
Smith said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of continuing John’s good work. I’m very proud to take on the role of leading the Teesside site to a successful and sustainable future.”
