One of the region’s providers of integrated welding and engineering solutions has announced plans to continue its ambitious growth by introducing its highly reputable welding and fabrication services into other industrial sectors including nuclear, power generation and petrochemical.

Starting life in 1980, Middlesbrough-based QA Weld Tech firmly established its roots in the oil and gas sector working with major companies, including Total, BP, Shell, OneSubsea and GE Oil & Gas.

Founded by welding engineer and current managing director Charles Tighe, the company began its operations from a 600sqm unit in Riverside Park Industrial Estate.

Having grown steadily, the firm now occupies nine adjacent workshops at the Riverside location, providing production space in excess of 4,600sqm.

As the company enters into new sectors, it has ambitious plans to transfer its solid pedigree and reputation for delivering complex welding and fabrication services.

Tighe said: “Three years ago we put in place a strategy that has seen us invest heavily in facilities and personnel, developing our management team and systems, producing a more rounded company with a skill set that transfers readily across many industrial sectors. We have maintained a very strong position in the oil and gas market and continue to be awarded, and successfully deliver, several major contracts to this sector.

“On the back of these, now is the absolute right time to use these contract wins as a springboard into new markets, where we know, like the oil and gas sector, we can lead the market with our engineering services.”

QA Weld Tech prides itself on its ability to work with difficult materials and engineer innovative solutions to complex problems. It has developed over 650 recognised and fully approved welding procedures for a wide range of applications.

Delivering a full turnkey solution, the company’s extensive facilities comprise shot blasting, clean condition welding and weld overlay cladding right through to fabrication, CNC machining and pressure testing.

The company continuously invests in its people and processes placing Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) at the forefront of its operations.

As part of the diversification, the business has rebranded to update its image to reflect its sleek, quality and solutions driven service offering.

This has included introducing a modern logo, which the company believes represents the business today and which will appeal to both its new and existing target markets.
