A Teesside company is providing close protection security services to an impressive list of clients just months after launching.

Norton-based Close Protection Security (CPS) has already provided security services for Middlesbrough Football Club and the Skylive Airshow, while Rockliffe Hall Hotel is their latest high-profile client.

The firm is run by military veteran Lee Nicholson, once with the Royal Artillery, and business partner Glenn Bartlett, who have recruited well-known local businessman Chris Petty to their board of directors to help develop the business.

CPS has recently provided security for Hartlepool-born Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling, boxing promoter Frank Warren and boxing champion Liam Smith, along with Middlesbrough FC officials.

Glenn and Lee joined forces with Chris after he used the services of the fledgling company for the popular Skylive Airshow he organises.

The 2017 show attracted around 18,000 visitors just days after a terrorist bomb had exploded to devastating effect at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena.

Recalling the challenge of providing security for the Skylive Airshow in the wake of the Manchester Arena bomb, Glenn said: “We had 60 men on the ground that day, first and foremost creating a reassuring visual presence.

“We liaised with Special Branch officers to ensure maximum security, with our fully-trained team performing searches on every visitor and staff member.

“It was naturally a big challenge but we had an outstanding team there to ensure the security of everyone in attendance.”

Chris, who also served in the military before helping to build Teesside IT firm Cornerstone Business Solutions, explained: “We’d found it difficult to find a security firm to provide the service we needed for the Airshow, but CPS did a fantastic job.

“I’ve known Glenn and Lee for a while and they already had some high-profile clients, so I didn’t need any persuading to join forces with them.

“There’s a massive gap in the market. There’s nobody else in the North-East capable of offering the services to such levels, so it’s got huge potential.

“We’ve already sealed some significant contracts and there are many more in the pipeline.”

CPS, who are fully accredited and include many fully-trained close security protection body guards on their books, also provide general security services, spectator stewarding and canine patrols.
