Darlington-based Whitehouse Funeral Services has expanded with the purchase of an adjacent building, with funding from Barclays.

Whitehouse Funeral Services, whose directors have a combined experience of more than 40 years in arranging funerals, is an independent, family-run funeral business, employing 15 people at branches in Darlington and Newton Aycliffe.

The purchase of the new premises at West Auckland Road, Darlington, will enable them to house their fleet of funeral cars, saving the business time and increasing capacity locally.

John Whitehouse, managing director of Whitehouse Funeral Services, said: “We’ve been storing our fleet of cars at a location over five miles away from the business so it’s brilliant that we can secure the cars onsite and operate more seamlessly for our customers.  We had to move quickly when the premises went up for sale and Barclays gave me the go ahead for the funding within two days, so we’re really grateful to them for pulling out all the stops to make sure we could secure the deal.”

Michael Oliver, Barclays business manager, put together the funding package for the deal.

He said: “It’s been an exciting time working with John and the team, supporting their expansion plans with the additional site which will take the business to the next level. We had to work quickly to secure the deal and we’re delighted that this well-known family business is thriving for the future and providing compassionate care for bereaved families across the North East.”
