Sky Sports News presenter Hayley McQueen says she will be “coming home” when she hosts the inaugural Tees Businesswomen Awards, in association with Northern Skills Group, at Wynyard Hall on November 8.
Currently anchor for Sky Sports News and Scottish Premiership football, Hayley lived in Hutton Rudby, near Stokesley, from the age of 15 when her father, ex Manchester United defender Gordon McQueen, was coaching Middlesbrough.
After accepting an invitation to host the awards by Tees Business editors and awards organisers Dave Allan and Martin Walker, Hayley said: “I’m delighted to be coming home to play a part in a night celebrating the success of female entrepreneurs and leaders in their field at a very special awards ceremony.
“The night will hopefully provide an opportunity to make new connections and be inspired by other women from across all industry sectors.
“I know many talented and hardworking females that I grew up with who have juggled family life as well as run successful businesses – and even started up their own business or worked their way to the top of male-dominated sectors too.
“I can’t wait to recognise all those nominated including women who have broken though the barriers to succeed.”
Hayley earned her stripes in production at Middlesbrough FC’s groundbreaking Boro TV before working her way through a male-dominated industry of sports reporting to present Manchester United’s MUTV and Sky Sports News along with Sky’s Champions League and Premier League football shows.
She launched Sky’s Sportswomen weekly programme and hosted the inaugural Sportswomen of the Year Awards, which were broadcast live.
Away from Sky, Hayley fronts an all-female podcast, The Offside Rule, which was recently voted by Vogue magazine as the best football podcast.
Among the leading names she has interviewed from the world of sport are Ronaldo, David Beckham, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Jose Mourinho and Mo Farah.
Organised by Tees Business, the inaugural Tees Businesswomen Awards attracted more than 100 entries across 10 categories.
A limited number of tickets in the Ballroom, next to the Conservatory, are available for the reduced price of £50 (+vat) each. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to enquire.
Shortlists were recently announced for each category, which can be seen here.
