Tees business leader Bob Cuffe has been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours.
The former Trinity Mirror regional managing director, who was appointed a non-executive director of Tees Business publishers Resolution Media and Publishing earlier this year, has been recognised for his services to business and economic development on Teesside.
Cuffe has more than 30 years’ experience in publishing, working from advertising representative at the Teesside Gazette to managing director of the Gazette and regional managing director at Trinity Mirror North East.
He’s now working for a small number of local firms in similar consultancy roles, including Resolution, Darlington Building Society (as vice chair), Jacksons Law and Recognition PR.
Bob said: “After initially being totally shocked I’m absolutely delighted with this award.
“I love this area and have always believed in it, its people and its business leaders.
“Anything I’ve done over the years – from chairing the Teesside Chamber of Commerce to being on the SSI Taskforce or, most recently, at the South Tees Development Corporation – has been to play a small part in making a stronger and more confident Teesside.
“I’m a very proud Redcar lad today.”
Married to Linda for 36 years and dad to Christopher, 28, Liam, 26, and Kieran, 22, Bob, who lives in Stokesley, is the son of a barmaid and plumber.
He grew up in a terraced Redcar house and had two stints at the Gazette helm, having started as an ad rep and risen up the ranks.
Bob’s news followed the announcement that Wilton Engineering boss Bill Scott has also been recognised in the 2019 New Year’s Honours list with the OBE.
