The Institute of Directors has appointed education specialist Claire Preston as an ambassador to its North East (South) branch.

Claire, a former Tees Businesswoman of the Year, is director of North Yorkshire Education Services (NYES).

NYES is the trading arm of North Yorkshire County Council and a national leader in the supply of business services and solutions to the education sector across the North of England.

Prior to joining NYES, Claire was chief executive of Lexonik, Middlesbrough for seven years. Lexonik works with teachers in the UK and across the world to help students make improvements in their reading, spelling and vocabulary skills.

Claire has more than 30 years’ experience in executive and operational management roles in various sectors including both UK and international education. She was named the first Tees Businesswoman of the Year in 2018.

Karl Pemberton, chair of the IoD’s North East (South) branch, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Claire to our network of ambassadors who represent the regional business community and ensure their voice is heard by government and policy makers.”

Claire said: “Education is vital to enabling businesses across all sectors to grow and prosper. I’m looking forward to contributing to the IoD’s commitment to support businesses who face workforce challenges including the need to address the skills agenda.

“My ambassadorial role will also enable me to support the ambitions of young people in our region as well as promote equality and inclusion at every level.”
