The Tees Businesswomen Awards are a wonderful way for women to highlight their journeys, receive recognition and encourage others to reach for their dreams, says Tees Valley Combined Authority group chief executive Julie Gilhespie.

The combined authority is sponsoring the Best New Business category in the third annual Businesswomen Awards, held in association with Nothern Skills Group, the training and apprenticeship arm of Middlesbrough College.

“I’m incredibly passionate about encouraging and inspiring women into rewarding careers across all sectors,” says Julie.

“The Tees Businesswomen Awards help to break down stereotypes and highlight the increasingly diverse businesses and opportunities in the region.”

The awards, which are being held digitally due to Covid restrictions, will be streamed live on January 14, and it is hoped they will reach the next generation of women and young girls, who will take inspiration from the winners’ stories.

“Our young women need to hear these inspirational stories of success so that they see running a business as a viable option when they leave education or training,” says Julie.

“This is more important than ever in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, when we need to be promoting positivity, aspiration and all of the opportunities out there for them.”

Dave Allan, director of events organisers and Tees Business owners Resolution Media and Publishing, urged businesses and individuals not to delay entering the awards or nominating others.

“We’re delighted that Tees Valley Combined Authority is again supporting the Businesswomen Awards, throwing their weight behind a positive message designed to promote women in business and inspire future generations.

“The November 25 entry deadline is fast approaching and a strong entry does need a little time and planning, so we’d strongly urge businesses and individuals to start working on their entries and nominations now.”
