A late flurry of entries for the Tees Businesswomen Awards has created a fiercely strong competition for the third annual event.
The 2020 Tees Businesswomen Awards will be streamed as live on the evening of January 14, 2021, due to Covid restrictions.
But organisers Tees Business are hoping the event will be just as successful as their inaugural Tees Tech Awards, which were delivered online in August.
Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies will be the ‘keynote speaker’ for the January event, when 10 category award winners will be revealed.
A total of 85 entries were received across all categories, with10 nominations in for the Businesswoman of the Year Award, currently held by Tees Components boss Sharon Lane.
Thirteen nominations were sent in for both the Inspiring Others category and Best Newcomer, while eight were received for Business of the Year.
Tees Business executive editor Martin Walker said: “To have received so many entries is testament to not only the awards, but also the ambition of businesses – and ladies in business – across the Tees region.
“Given the year we’ve had, some people may have felt less motivated to enter a business awards event, but the competition for every category is just as tough this year as previous years.
“What is most pleasing is that the majority of entries are ‘new entries’ – those who haven’t been entered in previous years – which will mean the awards will again shine a light on some ladies and businesses who haven’t previously had the recognition they deserve.
“We’re confident the event will be a success, and something to build on again for 2021.”
The category sponsors are currently busy shortlisting the entries for each award down to a final three.
After that, each sponsor will then mark the entries in five categories using a scoring system, with the highest points scored dictating the winner.
That means even the category sponsors won’t know who’s won their award until they’re revealed on January 14.
Tees Business is revealing the shortlists for each award on social media over the next few days.
More details about the event on January 14 will be announced in due course.
