Daniel Watson of co-sponsors Middlesbrough Digital on why members of the Tees region’s thriving digital sector should enter the second annual Tees Tech Awards, with the deadline for entries drawing near.
Last year, in the lead up to the application deadline for the inaugural Tees Tech Awards, I wrote a short piece on why I thought businesses and individuals should apply.
It focused on three key opportunities:
1. To raise profile
2. To celebrate success
3. To be part of an awards that offered a fair and impartial judging system
I certainly never thought at that stage that we would end up running a fully virtual event, but I think, despite a few aspects of a physical event that we all missed, this format actually emphasised these opportunities.
We saw the awards reach an incredibly wide audience, with more than 130,000 online views across multiple platforms. This included local, regional, national and international views – showcasing to a broad audience the incredible success stories of our digital tech cluster.
We saw companies celebrate in different ways. The Rule of 6, at the time of the awards, allowed for families and friends to get involved that may not have had the opportunity to do so in the traditional format.
And all I’ll say about the judging was that it was really tough, but genuinely impartial.
It’s hard to measure the actual impact the awards have had, but it’s safe to say that it has been a net positive impact. So I’d like to encourage businesses to get your applications in for this year. If you’re on the fence about applying, I hope I can sway you with the following:
1. The hybrid event format will allow for the opportunity to reach similar levels of online exposure, with the added benefit of what is looking like the first ‘physical’ event in the North-East digital tech calendar. Remember them?
2. The event offers a genuine opportunity to inspire the next generation of digital talent within the region – supporting the future of the sector, and your businesses, by influencing the talent pipeline
3. The application will take, at most, about an hour of your time. Surely it’s worth that?
The region’s thriving digital sector will be celebrated when the Tees Tech Awards are held online on July 1, 2021, in association with DigitalCity and Middlesbrough Digital. Deadline for entries is April 29. Organised by Tees Business, full details can be found here: Tees Tech Awards – Tees Business
