PD Ports, statutory harbour authority for the River Tees and owner and operator of Teesport, have thrown their weight behind a new event to showcase the region’s up-and-coming businesses.
Rising stars of the region’s business sector will go head-to-head with the launch of the Best New Tees Business Awards.
PD Ports will be the headline sponsor for the inaugural event, to be held in November.
CEO Frans Calje – pictured (above) with the firm’s head of PR, marketing and communications Kirsten Donkin alongside Tees Business executive editors Dave Allan (left) and Martin Walker – said: “We are honoured to be the headline sponsors at the inaugural Best New Business Awards.
“Recognising the immense contribution SMEs make to our region is something we should all be proud of and these awards will provide a platform through which we can recognise, celebrate and reward these great businesses and talented people.
“As the region’s largest private employer and a key business in the regional economy, SMEs make up for a large proportion of our supply chain and we are delighted to be able to show our support at these awards.”
The Best New Tees Business Awards have a wide range of categories for young businesses and individuals starting out in business.
The awards are being organised by Tees Business owners Resolution Media and Publishing, adding to an awards event stable that already includes the established Tees Businesswomen Awards and the Tees Tech Awards, which took place for the first time in August last year.
There are awards for the best business in services, creative, manufacturing, retail and hospitality, as well as categories for the Most Original New Business, Best New Community Champions and overall Best New Business.
There’s also individual categories for Best New Entrepreneur, Best New Apprentice and an Against All Odds award for someone who has overcome great hurdles to launch into business.
The categories are open to all businesses based in Teesside or Tees Valley founded since November 1, 2018.
Entries will open later in the year but sponsorship opportunities are available now, including category sponsorships for £3,000 + vat and opportunities to sponsor the drinks, films and programme from £995.
Tees Business executive editor Dave Allan, co-owner of Resolution Media and Publishing with Martin Walker, said the Best New Tees Business Awards will give a welcome boost to young businesses who’ve survived the tough test of the Covid pandemic.
“This is a chance to shine a light on the many rising stars and amazing new businesses across the widest range of sectors in the Tees region,” he said.
“At Tees Business, we pride ourselves in not just talking up the region and the businesses but giving them a helping hand wherever we can – and these awards will definitely provide a huge boost to the finalists and winners, putting their names up in lights for all to see.
“The Tees Businesswomen Awards have become a beacon for the female business stars of our region, we launched the Tees Tech Awards at the height of the pandemic, providing a new platform for our thriving local digital sector, and now we can’t wait to launch the Best New Tees Business Awards.”
