Contracts firm boss says Tech Awards success was down to the team

With entries now open for the 2022 Tees Tech Awards, the CEO of a firm which helps others secure game-changing contracts says winning a Tees Tech Award last year boosted his business and staff.

Tim Ward, who co-founded Stockton-based OPPORTUNI in 2020, bagged the Rising Star prize at the 2021 Tees Tech Awards.

The awards, for which 2022 nominations are now open, are a celebration of all that’s good within the Tees Valley’s thriving digital sector.

And according to Tim, his firm’s award triumph not only boosts his firm, it might also help others by publicising the opportunities OPPORTUNI can open up.

He told Tees Business: “We were delighted to win the award. Winning is a great way of celebrating the hard work of the team – their dedication and hard work is key to everything we do, and we don’t always take time out to be proud of what we have achieved collectively.

“The awards are important to the team. Winning an award makes us step back and take stock. It’s also a great way of raising the profile of the business and shouting about what we are doing.

“The more people that know about our business, the more people we can potentially support to find and win government contracts, so this can only be a positive.”

Regarded as the fastest-growing company in the sector globally, winners of a regional Tech Nation Rising Stars Award and one of Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Saturday winners, OPPORTUNI – with a 35-strong team and growing – gives SMEs the capability to match and compete for public sector contracts.

As a guest on numerous podcasts locally and globally, Tim always flies the flag for Teesside tech while creating high paying jobs for aspiring people in the region.

A fierce advocate of supporting SMEs to win government contracts, Tim is on a mission to change the world of bids, tenders and procurement – not for personal gain, but because he is passionate about supporting small businesses and giving them a platform to grow.

To that end, OPPORTUNI has launched a new website enabling Tees businesses to search for high value local authority contracts.

He explained: “Our mission is to ensure that the great local businesses, who should be winning local contracts, know exactly where to find them and how to win them.

“This can be anything from fixing the local school roof, cleaning the libraries and fixing the road to providing chairs for the NHS and everything in between.”

And for anyone thinking of entering the Tees Tech Awards 2022, he said: “The awards are really well respected across the region and beyond.

“They are a great way of raising the profile of the business and your achievements, along with celebrating the hard work put in by the team.”

The region’s thriving digital sector will be celebrated when the Tees Tech Awards are held at Hardwick Hall Hotel on April 28, organised by Tees Business in association with DigitalCity and Middlesbrough Digital.

The Tees Tech Awards recognise and celebrate the organisations and individuals thriving within the Tees region’s fast-growing digital sector together with the local companies driving their business through digital transformation.
