A design studio says winning a Tees Tech Award – for which 2022 nominations are now open – is a permanent reminder of a gift-giving charity’s “fantastic achievements”.
In December 2020, Hartlepool’s In Studio was approached to build an online platform for the Hartlepool Giving Tree – a charitable initiative in which shoppers buy Christmas gifts for children in need.
It had run successfully from the town’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre for many years but due to the pandemic, it needed to go online – and that’s where In Studio came in.
With just two weeks to create a platform to catch the Christmas shopping crowd, In Studio staff donated their time and skills for free.
But it proved time well spent as, by the end of the campaign, an incredible 174,000 gifts were received nationwide – showing how even in times of adversity, people can come together to create something amazing.
And by showing just how positive “tech” can be, it earned In Studio the “Tech For Good” prize at the Tees Tech Awards 2021.
Managing director Denise Newton said In Studio was “incredibly proud” to win the award, calling it “a permanent reminder of the fantastic achievements reached by The Hartlepool Giving Tree.”
She said: “It was lovely for our Hartlepool-based company to gain recognition for our hard work and commitment to what turned into a nationwide charitable project, raising over 170,000 toys and gifts to be distributed to various charities and organisations.
“We believe the awards are a great way to showcase local businesses and the projects they are involved in.
“It will hopefully encourage other businesses to follow in our footsteps and use their resources to help their local community.”
She also urged others to consider entering this year’s awards, saying: “The entry process isn’t difficult and isn’t too time consuming.
“We had a fantastic night at the awards ceremony at Hardwick Hall, with a room full of worthy winners.”
The region’s thriving digital sector will be celebrated when the Tees Tech Awards, organised by Tees Business in association with DigitalCity and Middlesbrough Digital, are held at Hardwick Hall Hotel on April 28.
The awards recognise and celebrate the organisations and individuals thriving within the Tees region’s fast-growing digital sector, together with the local companies driving their business through digital transformation.
